Guest John Callaham Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Super Meat Boy Forever, an all new game in the critically acclaimed indie platformer series, was announced this week for the iPhone and iPad for a release sometime in 2015. The original Super Meat Boy was released for the Xbox 360 and Windows in 2010 and later for the Mac and Linux platforms. The game has the player controlling a sentient piece of raw meat through a series of highly challenging platformer levels. The game got great reviews and has sold over a million copies since its launch. The two man team behind Super Meat Boy, Edmund McMillen and Tommy Refenes, announced and showed off a playable version of the new Super Meat Boy Forever at PAX Prime in Seattle on Friday. In a blog post, McMillen stated the game would be coming to "Phones, Tablets and Steam" but in an interview with Polygon his partner Refenes mentioned iOS specifically, so it looks like we can count on a release for the iPhone and iPad. McMillen stated that Super Meat Boy Forever is not a port of the original Super Meat Boy for mobile devices but an all new game. He wrote: "Our goal with SMB:F is to design a new full length platformer for touch devices from the ground up to avoid tacking bad controls on an existing design. we want to make something that embodies the original Super Meat Boy but is designed around a simple yet intuitive control scheme allowing for pin point accuracy and surprisingly deep controls without the use of multiple buttons/analog sticks." He added the new game will have six chapters and double the bosses compared to the original Super Meat Boy, along with a "full fledged dark world featuring dark warp zones, bosses, new playable indie game characters and more." It will also have a randomly generated level feature. One thing the game is not is an "endless runner" but McMillen said Super Meat Boy Forever will have an "endless mode" with daily runs and online high scores.
