DSTM Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 NIce looking Dougie. What board did you use with the M.2? I used a Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 7 board,Bill Has two M.2 slots on the board. DSTM Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Hi Bob. I was thinking of experimenting with a dual processor server board. Had no experience with servers. What are your thoughts? Would there be any positives in doing so? Thanks for any input. FPCH Admin AWS Posted February 16, 2016 FPCH Admin Posted February 16, 2016 Servers are a different animal. Most boards come with built in graphics. Most dual CPU server boards are extended ATX and need a more expensive case that can fit the board. If you build single CPU server you can get the boards in mATX or uATX then any case can be used. I build all my servers. Usually do a new build once a year. If you've never built one you should. When it's done you'll have a workhorse that will run forever. 1 Quote Off Topic Forum - Unlike the Rest
DSTM Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Thanks Bob. I will do some research and give it serious thought. If it is OK I will run it past you what I choose first. 1 Quote Roses are red, violets are blue, I'm Schizophrenic, and so am I Free Photo Restoration and Repair for all Forum members - CLICK HERE Please pop back and let us know if your Computer problem has been solved.
FPCH Admin AWS Posted February 16, 2016 FPCH Admin Posted February 16, 2016 I'll be happy to answer any questions you have. I would go with a multi-core processor instead of 2 CPU's. I haven't built an AMD box in several years. My next build is going to be AMD. I think their multi-core processors are just a little behind Intel in performance side by side, but, the bang for the buck is huge over what Intel offers. Quote Off Topic Forum - Unlike the Rest

IceMan37 Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 It's a sexy looking PC Dougie. It actually looks like a an OEM built PC with the non sleeved non modular power supply (ala Cyperpower). That is not a bad thing at all it looks very clean. May I ask what you will be doing with the PC? Are you selling it? Quote

No, I intend to use it for my main computer when all programs ( incl photoshop) are loaded and tweaked the way I like it. First though, I will change to water cooled as I hate working around a large air cooler on a main machine.:) Quote Roses are red, violets are blue, I'm Schizophrenic, and so am I Free Photo Restoration and Repair for all Forum members - CLICK HERE Please pop back and let us know if your Computer problem has been solved.
IceMan37 Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 I agree about water cooling anymore (AIO) they are easy to install and relatively safe and give you much more room than a bulky air unit, and looks better if using a windowed case. Quote

My case has a window in the side cover and now I have fitted a water cooler looks much better through the window and plenty of space to remove the M.2 which I will do from time to time. Before so little space to get your hand down to remove or fit the M.2 and the humungus air cooler was sharp on the corners. I fitted a CoolerMaster Nepton 240M which is working great . CPU is around 24c so doing the job well. Here are before and after shots. Happy I made the change.
