January 27, 20159 yr Hi Rich, It depends what you want, I suppose but Puppy distributions are extremely flexible because of the 'save file' capability and can be extended fairly simply not only in the installed variation but also in the live disc arrangement. For example I've been able to add SoftMaker FreeOffice (compatible MS Office although no Access equivalent and quicker to load than Libre Office), Thunderbird and Firefox as well as additional photo editing software. As long as you make the save file big enough on the hard drive, the live disc can be extremely versatile with numerous additions that do not fill the disc. The are many Puppy packages available from sites such as http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pet-packages-lucid/ and many Debian packages will install successfully too. Some of the Puppy packages are based on older software programs but I have found that running a program's updater in programs like Thunderbird and Firefox, eventually gets to the latest version. I'm not knocking the other Linux distributions and would advise anyone interested in exploring Linux to try lots of different distributions in live disc form before any commitment. There's a mass of good stuff out there.
