While the standard font sizes in iOS may work for some folks, those with visual impairments may find them too small to read comfortably. iOS 7 made default fonts even thinner and smaller than before, which compounded the issue for some. Luckily, iOS also has great accessibility options built in that includes larger, and even bolder fonts. All you've got to do is enable them in Settings.

How to turn on large and bold text on iPhone and iPad

  1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad running iOS 7 or higher.
  2. Tap on General.
  3. Tap on Accessibility.
  4. Tap on Larger Text.
  5. Turn On the option for Larger Accessibility Sizes.
  6. Drag the slider from left to right in order to adjust the text to the size you'd like.
  7. Tap on Accessibility at the top left to return to the previous screen.
  8. Turn On the option for Bold Text.
  9. Tap on Continue to reboot your iPhone or iPad.

Once you're iPhone or iPad reboots, you should notice that the text is bolder than it was before and not nearly as thin. For those with visual impairments, this should make text much easier to read. Just keep in mind that not all third party apps will support bold text. However, all built-in apps and many App Store apps do.
