I run a 3 computer home LAN, all running Windows XP SP2. On one PC I have my

email client, Eudora Pro and my news reader, Forte Agent. I access them from my

laptop by using the appropriate command line switches in the shortcuts to point

to the data directories.

That all works fine, WHEN I don't have THIS problem.

Each and every folder on the desktop computer are checked "read only". However,

the background of the checkbox, which is normally white, is grey with the check

inserted. Uncheck it and it goes white, after asking me if I wish to change the

attributes from read only to "full" for all files and sub-folders.

Usually, when a folder or a group of highlighted files have the read only box

greyed out like this, it means that some of the files or folders under this are

read only, while others are not.

Now, unless I change the attributes from Read Only, Forte Agent and Eudora both

cannot open or read their respective data files as they're either locked or read

only.

I right click on the folder, select Properties and uncheck it. Follow the

prompts and click on "Apply" or "OK".

If I then subsequently right click on folder/properties the Read only check box

is checked again and is grey.

I cannot seem to find what is causing all the folders to do this.

I have full sharing allowed for the hard disk and all files/folders in question

allowed and network users can change files, etc..

I have the C Drive and the D Drive mapped on the laptop as F: and G:

respectively.

Any ideas?

Thanks
