tiggy1998 Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 Hi All, I have a strange set up. I have an 80 gig partitioned drive and a 20 gig drive. The 80 gig drive runs on the Windows 2000 o/s and the 20 gig drive runs on the XP o/s. The machine crashed and I got an application called 'Recover My Files.' It recovered the files but it won't allow me to delete anything. On top of that, it created a .zip for every file on the partitioned drive! So now I have even MORE data on this machine and it is running extremely slowly as you can imagine. I did not reformat the drives because I know that destroys all of the info. Or maybe it doesn't. All I know is I need to find an application that will allow me to recover files and delete the stuff I don't want or need. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I am by no means a PC savvy person - slightly above average, I rescue horses. Thanks, Tiggy http://www.manesandtailsorganization.org Quote
FPCH Admin AWS Posted November 9, 2007 FPCH Admin Posted November 9, 2007 Are you trying to delete the files on the 2000 partition while booted in XP or the other way around? Quote Off Topic Forum - Unlike the Rest
tiggy1998 Posted November 9, 2007 Author Posted November 9, 2007 Thank you for your response. The machine boots from the 'C' drive which has the XP o/s on it. I attempted to reformat the 'D' drive which has Windows 2000 on it. The reformat for that drive failed. My ex-husband is an uber geek and he works for Intel in Japan and he told me what type of application to look for. I found the 'Recover My Files' application so I bought that. Since the machine is reporting that both the D and E drives are healthy, I am wondering if I can get rid of the Windows 2000 o/s and replace it with the Windows XP. Mind you, I really don't like the MS products and I use Sun's 'Open Office' suite for all of my data processing needs. How do I remove the Windows 2000 o/s if in fact I should do it? Thank you again for your reply. I'm going a bit nuts. I know I probably need a new 80 gig hard drive but the horses keep me broke! Tiggy - okay, my name is Elle... Quote
FPCH Admin AWS Posted November 10, 2007 FPCH Admin Posted November 10, 2007 While in XP use computer management > disk management to format the drive 2000 is on. Quote Off Topic Forum - Unlike the Rest
tiggy1998 Posted November 10, 2007 Author Posted November 10, 2007 Thanks, but I did that the other day and it did nothing. I just need to know if there is an application I can buy that will recover the files and let me delete those I do not want to keep. I'm burning to CDRW the stuff I want to keep, and after I'm done with that, I'm going to us Killdisk to wipe the partitioned drive with the 2000 o/s and install the XP o/s instead. I had to do this once before but there was not nearly as much data as there is now. Thanks, Ellen Quote
