All the files written over the summer to an external FAT32 USB HD

now have time stamps that are an hour later.

Even those with time stamps in January 2007. The files were

copied over using cpio -pdm under Cygwin under XP Home, so as to

preserve their time stamps.

The bug might be almost anywhere; perhaps in Cygwin, perhaps in

XP, or maybe it's an old bug in XP that's been fixed and a counterfix

in Cygwin hasn't been removed.

As a start, does FAT32 get the file timestamps right on its own?

Or do all files change their times by an hour when there's a time

change?
