Hello,

I use Windows XP Pro SP2 and Norton Internet Security 2006.

The Norton Firewall *continually* pops up messages about msi.dll accessing

the internet via some port or another, usually involving "UDP" (and nope, I

dunno what that really means, just that it's some sort of "access

protocol..)

I had tried telling it to not give alerts when "unused ports" are accessed,

but then it simply blocks them all, and this totally fouls up my internet

access. Unfortunately, there is no option for "allow this time" - it's

only "block all access" or "permit all access". Blocking usually causes

Internet Explorer to stop functioning.

I've been looking all over the internet trying to find out what the heck

msi.dll actually *does*, becasue I had thought ti's related tothe

installer, and I cannot for the life of my understand why the "installer"

*continually* has to access and tehn re-access a bazillion different ports.

I've simply been allowin access to every alert, because I have no idea

whether there are ports I "should" or "shouldn't" use, I have no idea

whether this continual "msi.dll" activity indicates virus/worm/etc.

activity (even tho' my scans have always come back as clean), or what on

earth is going on with this.

All I do know is that it's a real annoyance to continually have to respond

to these "msi.dll is trying to access port ####" alerts, sicne the computer

doesn't allow me tyo do anything at all with INternet Explorer until I do

select an action.

I tried looking through teh Microsoft Knowledge Base, but nothing there

made much sense, certainly not enough to address this situation.

Any Clues would be a huge help...

Thank YOu in Advance!
