Guest Steve Franks Posted October 23, 2007 Posted October 23, 2007 My HP USB wireless mouse stopped working in Windows XP Home yesterday. I had not installed anything new, so suspected that its batteries were flat. After I changed them it still didn't work, but the wireless receiver has a a activity LED which showed that it is receiving signals from the mouse. I downloaded the latest driver and installed it, butDevice Manager still shows the old Microsoft driver. I've spent hours removing every relevant piece of software; tried two different mice a wired PS2 mouse and a Logitec wireless mouse; without success. The wireless mouse works fine on my other PC and on this one under Linux, so it's not faulty. Why won't Windows let me update the driver? It says it has, but lies because the old (5.1.2600.0 dated 01/07/2001) driver is still showing in device manager. I'm running out of options, if I can't solve this I'll have to restore my PC to its factory state and reinstall everything that I've added in the last 18 months. Thanks in advance for your help, -- Steve Franks Quote
