In my office , I use a Program that uses an "aplication server " ( a

service ) in the Server and for stations ( clients ) accessing the

server .

The Program is not installed ( in the conventional way ) . You just

install the "Service" , and copy from a CD the requiered files , in

local folders in the Server and Clients

The *.exe files , recognize the "Aplication Server " , installed in

the SERVER

To make it clearer

SERVER \\ BASE D:\MLMaster

Station A C:\ MLMaster

Station B C:\ MLMaster

Station C C:\ MLMaster

Station D C:\ MLMaster

There is no need to Map the drivers - I just have to set up a normal

home -small business network and run the program from Server or

Client , using the main Executable in each Server or Client , on the

folders above

The Upgrades , are done by the software company at night , upgrading

the files in the Server :

D:\MLMaster

A Copy , of the upgraded files is placed in a subfolder :

D:\MLMaster\ClientADV

The Client stations , at startup run a batch file ( at the startup

menu ) , with the following command line : ( copy from

D:\MLMaster\ClientADV )

%windir%\system32\xcopy.exe \\BASE\ClientADV\*.* c:\mlmaster /y

Stations A (Pentium IV 1GB RAM ) and B ( SEMPROM 2800 512 RAM ) have

no problem upgrading

Station C (SEMPROM 1500 256 RAM does not upgrade - Not using the

command line - I can copy and paste from D:\MLMaster\ClientADV

Station D (Pentium III 800 384 MB RAM ) Can´t upgrade using the

command line .

It freezes in the middle of the copy and CANNOT upgrade by using

copy and paste from D:\MLMaster\ClientADV

The only way to copy the files is by using a Pen drive.

( Or ziping the files and copy the zip.file )

The error I get when trying to copy with copy and paste , at

station D , is , that after 2 or 3 files , windows says , "the Network

path is no longer valid "

I´ve talked to the Support people , and as usual I heard the " you

should format " the problem stations.

I tried other ways , like mapping the drives ( changing the command

line to the mapped drive) , running Scandisk at SERVER ( Pentium DUAL

Core 2 GB RAM ) , and stations ) .

I tried also changing the Network adress a station D . The

comand line is OK in all stations

All stations and Server are running winXP PRO SP2 - I can copy

any file from any stations or server ( including problem stayion D )

with the exception of the files of Server at D:\MLMaster\ClientADV.

(So I figure the Network is OK )

No computer is firewalled, and the Network is a convenitional

192.168. etc.etc

The gateway to the Internet is a Linux system computer , with

the firewall.

I finally gave up and decided to give it a try ; instead of

formating station D , ( FAT 32 ) I erased all files at the root of the

drive using XTGold , and deltreed , Windows ,

Program files , Documents and settings , Recycle Bin etc , and all

folders native to the Windows install ( This way , I preserved my

files in the HD )

When install was completed , before anything could be sent to

the registry ,I tried copying files from (Server ) MLMaster\ClientADV

- Same error.

Can one of you help me on this issue ??
