cdrom drive open cd but dont display cd contents

hi,

when i insert a cd into cdrom, cdrom light blinks like its reading

the cd, but nothing shows up in cdrom drive. i can open the drive (f:

\) but no contents are shown.

i tried to boot from winxp cd, it also didnt work. cdrom light

blinked for long time like it was trying to read cd but then it booted

into windows, instead of winxp setup. when there is no cd or

unbootable cd, the system displays the message cd rom FAILURE on

booting up i.e. it didnt recognize the un bootable cd or didnt detect

any cd in it.

i uninstalled the cdrom from device manager and winxp

installed it automatically on next boot up but it didnt help also.
