Paint color boxes corrupted or shrunk?

Paint and the Paint color dialogue thing is basic to several graphic and

website programs I use. I need to use the Define Custom Color part of it and

set values for Red-Green-Blue. For some reason the boxes for this have

'shrunk' so they only take two digits. For example, if I select the Basic Red

then the Custom Color top box shows 25 and about half of the last 5 so it

knows it is 255. If I want to change this to 254 then I can't as just 2

numbers are accepted. Same issue on Green, Blue and the left Hue, Sat: Lum:

How do I get the size of these boxes back to take 3 digits. I am Win XP 2nd

and fully updated.
