I have a gateway mx6453 laptop running windows media center edition and my

problem is that I usually keep the laptop plugged in and close the lid when I

am not using it, and then windows will go into suspend mode and when I

re-open the lid, the welcome screen comes on and I am forced to type in my

password. This would be normal operation if I had "prompt for password when

computer resumes from standby" and "when I close the lid of my portable

computer go into standby" both selected but I DON'T. Every time my computer

goes into standby after closing the lid, I immediately UNCHECK anything that

would cause windows to ever go into standby except manually choosing to do so

myself.

My power scheme is set to "always on". I turn off monitor after 15 minutes

and never the hard disks or standby (these setting are for both plugged in

and battery). On the advanced tab I unchecked prompt for password when

computer resumes from standby and when I close the lid of my portable

computer, I have it "do nothing". Hibernation is disabled. Under "alarms",

nothing sets the computer into standby. The laptop will be fine for the first

couple closes of the lid then randomly it will go into standby when the lid

is closed and then all of these settings are RESET to "go into standby when

lid is closed" "prompt for password upon resume suspend" etc. I have to

manually uncheck all of these options every time. What do you think is

causing this behavior? It is getting very annoying.
