Well, there are so may different interest groups out there, which want

to catch other people using statistics that will favor only their own

personal causes.

What exactly does Microsoft mean, when they say that they have sold 40

Million Vista copies?

Does that mean that there are actually 40 Million end users enjoying the

use of the Vista OS?

LOL! All wound up again Frank? And you wonder why I call you a putz.

Marco

"...they say that they have sold 40 Million Vista copies?"

Exactly that, no more, no less.

Microsoft has sold, that says nothing about how many are in use.

That includes OEM and retail.

But then you can add the pirates which account for many users.

Perhaps there are more than "40 Million" satisfied user.

Very probably impossible to prove either way since some of those

statistics are virtually impossible to get.

I have no idea if that number includes TechNet or MSDN subscriptions.

If it does, is MSDN counted as one or ten since ten installations are

permitted under the Master EULA.

My guess is no, but that is just a guess.

There are almost certainly less than "40 Million" since some prefer

another operating system.

Numbers are used all over the place and Microsoft definitely has no

monopoly on using numbers to serve marketing.

There are more computer users now compared to 6 years ago when Windows

XP was released so that is another of many factors that need to be

considered if accurate estimates are to be found.

Well... always "if," right? Not just Vista but all OS's, methinks.

And as to your news on the vid driver updates... it's a shame that's buried

down in this thread... seems like top level material to me. Thanks for

posting it.

Well, there you go. These are also statistics, and they are distorting

the truth, because they aim to give the impression that there are

actually 40 million real users implied.

Thus, these "users" would certainly not be included in the 40 million

copies sold.

That's right, Microsoft can't fool their users anymore. -)

That's been the case for a long long time. And that's why people still use

Feel free to post it somewhere if you can find anywhere it won't

immediately get swamped :)

I know the advice has always been to install NVidia drivers manually and

I have had problems even with that in the past, and that includes

removing the old drivers first, but this appears at least to have worked

as it should.

I still suggest remove old and install manually if you have the time but

oh well, maybe the did a new installer package for MS update site?
