Greetings from (old) Europe

It's in a way very strange from this side of the Atlantic ocean to see how

people are insulting each other (Kevin is an idiot, Bill is a blockhead, Tom

is a paranoiac of a kind or something else, and so on Vista is a bucket of

crap...)

As far as I am concerned, I did not come across any serious issue with Vista

that could not find quickly a solution.

My question is: why such a fuss against Vista? It may not be the best OS in

the world (which one is?) but it works.

Do the guys yelling that Vista is a pile of crap, bother to tweak around and

fix their machines?

Honestly, it's a mystery to me.

I'm not a Bill G.'s fan, but to speak the truth, Vista works with no problem

on my machine.

Shall I go and see a psy something?

Don't apologize - You're just a retard. Vista has problems, lots of

problems and if you can't see that, then you really are not using your

computer. It just sits there and you just glance at the screen. Just FYI.

You should make an appointment with your Psychiatrist right away. We are

afraid you will do something more stupid than you already have done.

Just FYI.

My only comment on your comments: you just haven't looked around enough

in Vista to find all the nagging irritations--believe me, they are there.

Maybe I should look for them also. Thanks for the tip !

For something that's really stable and secure, it sure does get a lot of

traffic about problems. Lots and lots and lots and lots.

XP doesn't get nearly the traffic in their general group. Heck, even

adding 2 or 3 groups together doesn't have the same number of problem

posts. And it's used by 10 times more people than Vista.

I doubt you need to see a shrink. Maybe you just need to turn the machine

on to see the problems.

Most of the new computers sport Vista .. so the Vista group is getting all

the problems of teething new computers.

If you take away the flame threads, XP General gets more posts, most of

them related to XP (of all things, giggle).

You haven't begun to see the anarchy this group will have after all the

new Vista users who didn't know what Usenet is open their brand spanking

new Windows Mail and take a gander at the "Microsoft Communities" or

Redmond-speak for their little corner of Usenet.

Pretty funny if you ask me. You are one of the biggest flame generators

around. If we could harness your flame, we could light over 10,000 American

homes!

Salutations de vieille Australie :-)

Vous avez parlé sagement.

By my reckoning since 01 July 2007 there have been 5060 different posters to

m.p.w.vista.general. About 95% users each sent between 1 and 5 messages.

During the same period, a few individuals posted between several hundred, to

over a thousand messages, each. There is an unfortunate amount of static

but it comes from a tiny handful of posters (around half a dozen), who

mainly respond to each other with empty rantings. The ~5,000 or so other

posters usually asked good questions, and often got useful answers. By and

large, this newsgroup offers a useful facility, in spite of a few idiots.

No, no psychologist (at least not for this issue...). I also have no serious

problems with Vista (and very few minor ones), and have been using it on my

production machine since November. I also have XP machines, but I much

prefer Vista. Perhaps it's because I build my machines myself and always

make sure my hardware surpasses the OS requirements.

Also, people seem to believe that XP was always what it is now. Not so. In

fact, much of the complaining sounds just like the XP naysayers of old, just

after it was released. XP, however, has had time to mature (unlike some of

the posters I've read here...). My opinion is that Vista (I use Ultimate) is

the best OS to date, and as it matures, will surpass XP in stability,

performance and function.

Thre are already millions and millions and millions and millions and

millions and millions of computers running Windows Vista. Any newsgroup such

as this one will be busy to some extent with its couple hundred posts in a

day [and even then, almost half these posts involve troll banterings].

Except for the questionable numbers pushed by MS (those are copies they

sold to OEMs, not copies sold to users), do you have something that

supports the false notion that millions and millions and millions and

millions of computers are running Vista?

I mean, I see people who say they've gone back to XP, yet I bet MS still

counts them as running Vista. I personally know 1 that installed linux to

the machine and another that installed XP. The stickers on the machines,

and MS, call them Vista users. I see a whole lot of people who say they

tried Vista bought off of the shelf and went back. I personally wiped it

from one machine, and I'm thinking of doing it to the other.

It would follow that if this sort of anecdotal evidence holds, millions

and millions and millions and millions and millions and millions and

millions and millions and millions and millions and millions and millions

and millions and millions and millions and millions and millions and

millions of copies would have been sold by now. To users, no less. Even

MS isn't dishonest enough to try that lie.

Part of being stupid is not even knowing you're seen as stupid. That

describes you perfectly Frank.

:) Oh wow, you personally know one.

It's on tens of millions of computers at least. Near every laptop and

desktop sold in those big box stores or online from Dell etc. etc since

January has Vista on it. The big box stores have even stocked their shelves

with retail copies in case customers want to upgrade. It's out there in the

tens of millions perhaps more, that's the reality.

Have a nice evening,

Half a dozen? I count 24 and amazingly this is exactly how many people are

in my Killfile.

This makes for a very pleasant experience on these newsgroups. :)

No need to apologize or see a psych.

You have had success and that is not nearly as uncommon as some would

have everyone believe.

I have had good success with Windows Vista on two older computers.

The insults given you are a testament to the blind hate for Windows

and probably Microsoft some have.

Some are unable to see many have success so they need to imagine

something is wrong with the operators.

Some will inevitably complain those having success deny there are any

problems but they would be hard pressed to show where anyone said

Windows Vista has no problems.

That is but one example how a few need to manufacture fiction when the

facts do not support their agenda.

Since Windows Vista works for you, keep with it and it will probably

support you well for years to come.

Vista is not problem-free, no doubt. Whether it deserves the derision it

receives in this ng is a question I believe neither you or I can answer.

(Although I'm sure those who deride it regularly will respond in the

expected fashion.) I recently started reading the posts in

comp.sys.mac.system because I plan on buying a Mac when Leopard is released,

and there are plenty of flamewars in that ng too. Exactly the same type of

back-and-forths as in this ng a small number of people who apparently hate

each other. Lovely.

> As far as I am concerned, I did not come across any serious issue with

Same here. The only serious issue I have with Vista is its ridiculously slow

file copies. If that's not fixed with SP1, I will be seriously disenchanted.

(Pun intended...)

> My question is: why such a fuss against Vista? It may not be the best OS

There are numerous reasons folks protest so loudly against Vista. They hate

MS. They are either supremely bummed or gleeful over the fact that the Vista

that was unleashed upon the public was missing some major pieces that MS

claimed would be there and are not. They did upgrades instead of clean

installs. They did no due diligence regarding whether their PC would run

Vista acceptably. They bought a Home Basic system that came with 512MB RAM,

the minimum amount of RAM claimed by MS (which is really unfortunate,

because MS has always, and I do mean always, understated the minimum

requirements for their OS's... those "in the know," IT professionals and

savvy PC users, have known for years that the minimum reqs are BS. I think

the same applies to Macs.). They purchased a Vista system from an OEM that

shipped systems with device drivers and crapware that weren't really Vista

ready. Not all 3rd party Vista device drivers are mature and do cause

problems. They just like to bitch. I'm sure there are many more. And I'm

sure we'll hear about it.

> Do the guys yelling that Vista is a pile of crap, bother to tweak around

> and fix their machines?

Some do, some don't. There are folks in here that holler that Vista is a POS

and they either don't use it or have never touched a PC running Vista. There

are folks in here that holler about Vista and then turn around and admit

they're not having any problems on their system. Go figure.

> Honestly, it's a mystery to me.

> I'm not a Bill G.'s fan, but to speak the truth, Vista works with no

> problem on my machine.

Bill Gates caught the Golden Ring on the Merry Go Round of computers. I'm

ambivalient about the guy but I will say he's probably donated more money

to charities than I would make in two or three or twenty lifetimes. It would

be interesting, to me anyway, to know how much money Steve Jobs has donated

to charities.

Vista has worked, relatively problem free, for me on five different hardware

platforms. I have PC's running XP Home, XP MCE, and Ubuntu here and I prefer

Vista over those OS's. One can only assume that Vista will continue to

improve and the complaints that XP is more stable will recede far sooner

than the complaints about XP's stability prior to the release of XPSP2.

> Shall I go and see a psy something?

Only if you take to heart the forthcoming insults from those who disagree

with you.

Lang

It works on mine too, but I dislike the way it looks and feels.

And if you turn off the old mother hen they called UAC, it breaks other

things.

Security is between the ears, and the people who designed the security in

Vista had nothing there.

But that's just my opinion...
