Problems after XP home to XP Pro upgrade

Have upgraded a PC from XP Home to XP Pro. Having numerous problems since.

 

PC will not shut down or restart correctly, have to do a hard boot.

 

Can not install any new program, getting an error that another installation

is in progress and have to wait until it finishes.

 

PC has been rebooted several times.

 

Any ideas?
