Switch User Freeze Problems

Recently a problem has developed with "switch user." In the past no problems

but of late the process of switching from one user to another freezes as the

second user's desk top appears. The start menu does not work or any other

mouse stroke. At this point the only way out appears to be to switch the PC

off and start again.

 

The only way to avoid the freeze at "switch user" is for the first user to

log out completely before the second user logs in, which is causing some

friction between family members!

 

Any ideas for solving this would be great. We have XP Pro.
