Wanted to share this, maybe it helps someone out there.

Affected:

* Windows 2000 Advanced Server with SP4

* The Server is multihomed (2 nics with different subnet)

* DNS Server is running on it

* DNS Optiions : enable round robin = OFF, enable netmask ordering = ON

Cause:

Update KB935666 replaces DNS.EXE to version 5.0.2195.7135 (13/4/2007)

Effect:

The enable round option has been enabled after the reboot. After manually

disabling again there are still issues with incorrect resolving. It seems

that the enable netmask ordering option does not work at all anymore. When

clients connect they get the first name record in the DNS database. This

should not be.... it should look at the subnet where it came from.

Solution:

Remove KB935666 from your server which DNS is running. It will repace

DNS.EXE back to version 5.0.2195.6715 (19/6/2003). After this all things

where back to normal.

richard
