Folks, I am not sure if this happened just after installing the recent

patches, or after a recent upgrade from IE6 to IE7.

Symptoms: file access seems to be much slower than normal, particulary

in directories with a large number of files. I've tried turning off

the ZoneAlarm and the CA Anti-Virus, but it doesn't make any

difference. Both local and network file access seem slow.

Looking at a remote PC which is being accessed over the network from my

PC, when you do a directory access, CPU usage on the remote PC shoots

up to near 100%. It is as if, perhaps, instead of looking up just

information for one file in a directory, the whole directory is being

scanned for every lookup. Perhaps as if some caching were missing?

Thanks,

David
