Guest Jess Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 I've been plagued by an "System Error: lsass.exe : Object Name Not Found" message that causes my computer (WinXP Home Edition SP2) to restart in an endless loop (3 times in 2 weeks!) and the only solution is to format the drive and reinstall. I have just done that but am paranoid the machine will recieve the error on the next restart. Heres the backstory: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/reader.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.windowsxp.help_and_support&tid=49ee0155-3c50-4d67-93aa-b737346dbedd&cat=en-us-ms-winxp&lang=en&cr=US&sloc=en-us&m=1&p=1 A user suggested this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883268 Now I'm currently querying the processes listed in the article and am unsure whether to correct them or not. I am doing this in full windows mode (there are XP updates waiting for a restart & if the error occurs I cannot access Safe Mode either so its now or never!). Here is a summary of each query: HTTPFilter Type :20 WIN32_SHARE_PROCESS STATE :1 STOPPED <NOT STOPPABLE, NOT PAUSABLE, IGNORES SHUTDOWN> WIN32_EXIT_CODE: 1077 <0X435> SERVICE EXIT CODE :0 <0X0> CHECKPOINT :0X0 WAIT_HINT :0X0 Sc query KDC OpenService FAILED 1060: The specified service does not exist as a n installed service. NetLogon 20 WIN32_SHARE_PROCESS 1 STOPPED <NOT_STOPPABLE, NOT PAUSABLE, IGNORES_SHUTDOWN> 1077 <0x435> 0 <0x0> 0x0 0x0 NTLMssp 20 WIN32_SHARE_PROCESS 1 STOPPED <NOT_STOPPABLE, NOT PAUSABLE, IGNORES SHUTDOWN> 1077 <0X435> 0 <0x0> 0x0 0x0 PolicyAgent 20 WIN32_SHARE_PROCESS 4 RUNNING <STOPPABLE, NOT_PAUSABLE, ACCEPTS_SHUTDOWN> 0 <0x0> 0 <0x0> 0x0 0x0 ProtectedStorage <interactive> 120 WIN32_SHARE_PROCESS 4 RUNNING <STOPPABLE, NOT_PAUSABLE, IGNORES_SHUTDOWN> (All Vaues for WIN32 EXIT CODE, SERVICE EXIT CODE, CHECKPOINT & WAIT_HINT are the same for the next few processes: 0 <0x0> 0 <0x0> 0x0 0x0 SamSs 20 WIN32_SHARE_PROCESS 4 RUNNING <NOT_STOPPABLE, NOT_PAUSABL, IGNORESSHUTDOWN> EventLog 20 WIN32_SHARE_PROCESS 4 RUNNING <NOT_STOPPABLE, NOT_PAUSABLE, ACCEPTS_SHUTDOWN> PlugPlay 20 WIN32_SHARE_PROCESS 4 RUNNING <NOT_STOPPABLE, NOT_PAUSABLE, ACCEPTS_SHUTDOWN _____________________ There we go! Should I correct these values to the guidline recommended in the support article? Should they all read (STOPPABLE,PAUSABLE,IGNORES_SHUTDOWN)? I'd appreciate any help as I want to prevent this lsass.exe error occurring again (to the best of my ability anyway). As I've mentioned in my previous post all spyware scanners, Antivirus etc are uptodate/firewalled etc. I've run Chkdsk/r before as well and the harddisk seems fine. No other errors take place - the machine works fine. Any other details I could provide? many thanks in advance Jess Quote
