Can MSI Installer 3.1 Be Reinstalled On XPSP2

Hi,

When I try and open certain programs, the MSI Installer insists on

reinstalling my Microsoft Word 2000. Event ID 1001.

This has been going on since I had a bit of problems with my machine. I had

to use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to remove a program that would

not uninstall, and it did a job on my machine. I was able to put it back

together 99.9% except for this little glitch.

I checked the registry to see if the permissions for installer were set

correctly, and I think I might have found the problem. In the MS support page

Titled: "Windows Installer-related event IDs are logged in the Application

log when you start an Office program" it explains how to check the

permissions in the registry...

which I stated to do. 1st I went to:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer -

 

Everything looked fine.

 

Then I went to:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\Compo -

 

BUT IT WAS NOT THERE!!!

 

So could that be the problem? If so, can I reinstall Windows Installer 3.1??

If you don't think it is the problem, what could it be?

My machine is running beautifully except for this little quirk!
