Locked files on a network

At school we have a Novell network. All our PC files were moved from the

HDD to the server. I've had problems with some of the files since then.

 

First: the file icons have a circular arrow pattern on the lower left

corner. I can't find any reference to that kind of icon pattern.

 

Second: some of the files open with a warning that they are being edited by

"ME" and ask if I want to open a read only copy. If I open it and save it

as a different filename, it may or may not open normally again.

 

Today I copied one offending file to the HDD and the icon was normal and it

opened normally. I discussed this with my IT and am considering copying all

files back to the HDD and then back to the server. Of course I'll

experiment with one directory at a time to see if that works.

 

Any suggestions about what is happening?
