Trouble preparing tapes in computer management

I have 2 DLT VS 80 tape drives

I have no problems performing backups and reading backups from

existing tapes.

however when I try to free a new tape I get the following error

Library BNCHMARK DLT SCSI Sequential Device couldn't write to media

"57". Eject it, fix the problem (see the event log), and try again.

The following is from the event ststem log: event ID 126

Failed to perform a software load of the media "57" in a drive of

library "BNCHMARK DLT1 SCSI Sequential Device".

The following is from the event ststem log: event ID 111

RSM could not load media in drive \\.\Tape1 of library Drive 0
