Guest Rick O Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 Sony Vaio notebook, hard disk crash. Replaced hard disk, reloaded XP Pro from recovery CD's, no problem. Loaded SP2, no problem. Downloaded and installed latest updates (95 of them). After reboot, found the unit could not web browse. TCP/IP seems fine, can ping whatever OK. Disabled firewall and virus protection, no change. Ran IE 7's "Diagnose Connection Problems..", returned with "HTTP blocked...possible firewall...etc". Looked at the Application Log, found a number of errors from "System.ServiceModel.Ins", among them the last error was "HTTP Namespace reservations not installed." I suspect this is either a direct of indirect cause of the problem. The first error from Service.ServiceModel.Ins was complaining the "IIS is not installed or is disabled", which is odd since this is simply a notebook workstation XP Pro load. Search of all microsoft.com provided no hits . There are a number of previous errors, but the first was "A provider, HiPerfCooker_v1, has been registered in the WMI namespace, Root\WMI, to use the LocalSystem account. This account is privileged and the provider may cause a security violation if it does not correctly impersonate user requests." I have reached the end of my technical expertise to resolve this. Quote
