Guest Chris Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 "The device sent an incorrect response(s) following a keyboard reset." Just lately, the multimedia keys on my HP (Compaq) keyboard often do not work correctly. Some keys (like volume up/down and mute) did still work, but the on-screen displays are missing. The "internet" keys do not work at all. I noticed in the Event Viewer the error mentioned above occurs at a boot up, source i8042prt, and this appears to stop the HP keyboard extension driver KBD.exe from running correctly. All the normal standard keyboard functions are ok. On the odd occasion the i8042prt error does not occur at boot up, and then ALL the multimedia keys work correctly. As per suggestions on the Web, I have tried un-installing all the HP KBD stuff, but the i8042prt error still occurs. I have also un-installed the Windows keyboard driver (so that Windows re-installed it on next boot) but the problem remains. I have also tried another keyboard. No different. I have even tried some suggested registry mods to increase the timeouts in the kbdclass section, but to no avail. Anyone any idea of where else I might look for the source of this annoying problem? Chris. Quote
