I have come across documentation in the past stating that unless a

user was running MS Small Business Server or perhaps another server

offering(I forget now), that the ability to share a fax service

installed on the server with other client machines was not supported.

In fact I have even tried to share my fax "printer" on my home network

with the result that XP says it's not supported. On further

investigation I find articles through googling, that take me to MS

support documents talking about sharing among other things, FAX$

service on XP. I know windows 2003 has the ability but I can't afford

Windows 2003 so my question then is what am I missing in these

articles? It says the document is for XP however MS says faxing via

the LAN is supported from Windows 2003 and up, or if you have Small

business Server or something like that.

Again when I followed the instruction I was not able to find the Fax$

share in Computer Management but I'm confused..... Any thoughts would

be appreciated.

My idea is that if it's a share, even a hidden share, that one should

be able to share it with admin rights and then at least attempt to

share the fax process correct? Ideally, I might be out and agree to

fax something to someone at sometime during the day and so I pull up

the documents to be faxed, create them then print them to the network

fax machine. Assuming the computer I'm on is away from the home

network where the fax computer is setup I simply press print and send

all my documents that need faxing to the network printer where they

patiently sit in queue until my computer connects with the home

network and begins connecting with the fax computer. Then my

documents are sent out without any further intervention on my part.
