I have written before, but things are getting worse. I said there were only

a few things in my control panel>add/remove. My firefox will hardly work at

all, even the main page won't open.

I went into control panel to try and delete it and find I cannot delete

anything on that add/remove page. I don't know what is wrong with this

laptop. Is there a way to diagnose it myself, or do I have to take it in to

someone?

Thanks.

Do you have admin rights? Is it possible you have more than one user

account on your PC?

Does Firefox work in its safe mode? If so, you have a problem with one

or more Firefox add-ons, I would uninstall the offending add-ons. Also,

do you regularly clean out the cache?

You said, "things are getting worse." Other than your Add/Remove issues

and your Firefox problems, is there anything else wrong with your PC?

Do you perform regular maintenance on your PC and make sure it is free

of malware? A good general resource is:

I don't know if there is more than one user, how would I know that. I know

I am the only one using that particular laptop.

It didn't work any different in safe mode, but I will uninstall the theme.

Nothing else is wrong besides FF and the control panel...........that is

just weird. It is just getting slower and slower and won't even load a

page.

I run the spyware, etc every day, even more so trying t figure out what is

wrong. It times out before it loads.

I will try it on safe mode again.

Thanks.

Please post copies of all Error and Warning Reports appearing in the

System and Application logs in Event Viewer for when the problem

occurs. No Information Reports please.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,

Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning

of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description

are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/en-us

Part of the Description of the error will include a link, which you

should double click for further information. You can copy using copy

and paste. Often the link will, however, say there is no further

information.

http://go.microsoft.com/fw.link/events.asp

(Please note the hyperlink above is for illustration purposes only)

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double

click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a

button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event

Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of

the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from

Event Viewer.

PattiChatti, My replies are inline. Please do the same; it would enable

Control Panel/User Accounts. It should like Figure 30 from this page:

http://shurl.org/IvMtQ

What do you see at the bottom underneath "or pick an account to change"?

I'm just taking a stab--perhaps you're running under a limited users

account rather than under an administrative account, and maybe this is

why you can't uninstall apps. Perhaps there's another account on your

laptop you need to use to have full access to the Add/Remove function.

Another possibility is listed here:

http://www.winxptutor.com/arpbuttons.htm

But this issue is really the lack of the Change and Remove buttons.

How long have you owned it? Did you start clean, or did you obtain it

used?

Are you referring to the *Firefox* safe mode? If so, the issue may be

too many files in the browser cache. I don't recall you mentioning that

you emptied it. Also what version of Firefox are you running?

Are other Web browsers also slow, or is it just Firefox? And again, are

you emptying the browser cache?

What do you mean by "run the spyware"? What specific antispyware apps do

you run? Which antivirus program do you use? What is it that times out

before it loads?
