If all folders are sub-directories of 'My Computer' and you open 'my

computer'

to access these folders, then why is 'My Documents' displayed separately

above

'my computer' when I run Internet Explorer. One would think you would have

to

open 'My Computer' to get to 'my documents'.

I was recently asked this question but had no answer to it.

If you use Cygwin, the C drive starts at /cygdrive/c and the directory structure

is sensible from there. The windows apps apparently give you also places you

might wish to go to, given where you are, based on common experiences with users.

In other words, they don't follow the directory structure that's really there but

provide common shortcuts.

(Even Cygwin has *nix mount point baffles, /home also being at /cygdrive/c/home,

but that's a little more sensible.)
