Terminal Server WAN NIC goes to sleep mode.

I have TS with Win 2003 SP2. It has 2 NIC Intel PRO/1000 one connects

to Cisco ADSL router and other to a hub. The NIC that connects to

Cisco (WAN) it is natted to allow RDC on to it.

LAN NIC configuration

IP: 192.168.0.100

SM: 255.255.255.0

DG: 192.168.0.200 (which is DC)

DNS: 192.168.0.200

WAN NIC configuration

IP: 10.10.10.3

SM: 255.255.0.0

DG: 10.10.10.1 (which is CISCO)

DNS: 192.168.0.200 (which is DC)

Time to time WAN nic goes to sleep and every one is kicked out from

the connection, to get the user back I have to disable the WAN

connection and enable it again. This problem happens 2-3 times a day.

I have checked the power management of the nic, updated the latest nic

drivers and also done all the latest MS updates but no luck. Any

solution? Thanks

Rajan

Two default gateways is a contradiction in terms. If you want to have two

NICS you should set a default gateway on your WAN interface and a static

route to your LAN.

A better solution altogether is to redesign your topology. You are not

securing the LAN as it is, because if the TS is compromised it has access to

the LAN.

- You can put the servers on the same LAN, and use VPN or even RDP to

connect

- Or with more cost you can create a separate DMZ for the TS, with no access

through to the LAN.
