Hello,

Due to several "blue screen", I decided to check the memory of my PC (

Mother Board: GIGABYTE GA-K8NXp-SLI with 2 x1Go Corsair XMS Platium series,

this configuration has worked fine for more than 1 year).

I made test with Windows Memory Diagnostic" (WMD) and MEMTEST86.

MEMTEST86 doesn't see any problem; but when I run WMD it hangs after few

time during LRAND phase always at the same @: 09D978.

To determine the faulty element,

a) I swaped the 2 memory sticks and

b) made test with only 1 stick installed,

c) move the stick on each memory slot.

Each time WMD hangs (I need to reboot) at the same address while running

LRAND.

Questions:

1 - Why does WMD hang and doesn't report an error?

2 - Why MEMTEST86 doesn't see any problem ?

3- I suspect a problem with Chip Set ( NVDIA), am I wrong or right ?

PS: for "Blue Screen" Experts; Information on the "Blue Screen" are: STOP

0x0000009C ( 0x00000004, 0x8086F1F0, 0xB2000000, 0x00070F0F). Some time

system reboot without "Blue Screen"! Any clue ?

Thanks for any help.

Windows memory tester should'nt hang at all.Try reinstalling to another MS

DOS floppy,or try the cd version.Or,try running in advanced mode

Thanks Rich, for the link. It confirms that I'm thinking: A CPU or Bus

problem. :o((

The WMD shouldn't hang; but it does! I used the same floppy to check memory

on other PC without any trouble! That why I think I have an Hardware

problem: CPU, CACHE, BUS, ... It seems that the test algorithm used by WDM

generates the CPU/CACHE/BUS fault; but not those used by MEMTEST86.

best regards.

Pay zero attention to Andrew E. He is a brainless bozo who persists

I have the same experience with WMD when using a Promise Fasttrac

card. I ran memtest86+ configured for all tests (over 12 hours) no

errors

and the boxen runs just fine. I just quit thinking about it.
