Am using a Dell PC with Windowns XP & SP 2. How do I go about finding the

number of COM PORTS on my PC ? and which ones are in use ? and which are not

in use ?

Control Panel, ( Classic View ) System, Hardware (Tab), Device

Manager (Button). Expand the Ports category.

If it's a recent ( <2Yrs) PC it likely only has a single physical Serial

or COM port. There is a difference between physical Serial ports

and multiplexed ones.
