Guest Pete Posted July 3, 2007 Posted July 3, 2007 I had a windows no boot problem which I was able to correct with chkdsk /r from recovery console. In event viewer I found four errors that seem significant: 1st error, 1 occurrence about 3 months ago: "The device 'WDC WD16 00JS-00MHB0 SCSI Disk Device' disappeared from the system without first being prepared for removal." 2nd error, several occurrences over 3 month span: "An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk0\D during a paging operation. " 3rd error, coincides with 2nd error: "The device, \Device\Scsi\viasraid1, did not respond within the timeout period." 4th (final and fatal) error, 1 occurence: "The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume C:" All the errors are hdd/controller related and I'm assuming caused either hard drive damage and/or XP file system damage to a point where I could no longer boot normally or in safe mode. The chkdsk /r reported finding and repairing one or more bad sectors. The system is up and running ok for now. Assuming the first error got the ball rolling and led up to the other three, my thoughts for possible causes: bad sata controller/driver, bad sata cable, or not enough power. Any ideas or suggestions as to the most likely cause for the errors are much appreciated. Thanks, Pete Quote
