If an application (Timeslips) opens a file in shared mode, in a workgroup it

sometimes fails because (according to filemon) it is denied a file record

lock, but this never seems to happen in a domain. This isn't a problem that

I need to solve because I'm moving this network to a domain anyway, but for

the sake of curiousity, is there a difference in file locking between domain

and workgroup servers?

I recall that Quickbooks only supports shared mode in a domain (unless there

is some kind of server-side component installed).

Does opportunistic locking apply to workgroup servers?
