On a Windows Server 2003 Standard installation I find that the Help and

Support service is actually not installed. It is not listed in Services, and

other utilities (like sc getkeyname "Help and Support") tells me it is not on

the system at all.

It is not even listed in the available Windows components in Control Panel

Add Or Remove Programs.

How and from where can I acquire and install this service?

If you are unable to access Hepl and Support, try reinstalling Help and

Support:

Also on checking on my PC, there shouldnt be a Help and Support service. May

I know why are you looking for this service?

OK, the link provided gives a prescription valid for Windows XP. I'll have to

check out if it works for Windows Server 2003 as well.

Why I look for the service? Because the event log on the server gives me

links to further information - but when I click them, the system says:

"Windows cannot open Help and Support because a system service is not

running. To fix this problem, start the service named 'Help and Support'."

(There are also other annoying instances where this service is requested by

links in the standard server OS.)

On my PC the service is present, on my servers there is an entry in the

Start menu named Help and Support - which gives me exactly the message quoted

above. That's why. Maybe you do not miss it. I do.

Hey,

Sorry my bad. Vista doesn't have Help and Support service but older OSes

have it.

Please try the reinstallation and see if it works. XP and Win2003's

reinstallation of Help and Support are the same.
