Problems Copying Files From An External Drive Connected Via USB

Hello,

First time on this forum so please be gentle.........

My wife has purchased a Tom Tom One SatNav which uses a 256Mb SD card for

the application and all of the associated files that it needs.

Basically whenever I connect it to my PC using USB port and try and do a

backup, load updates or just plain old copy files, it seems to corrupt the SD

card requiring me to formt it. Problem is my PC won't let me format it (says

it can't complete the format) and I have to resort to using my work laptop to

do it.

It's a bit strange because I have a TomTom Go 910 and I can update that,

copy files etc perfectly using USB. Same with my Canon Ixus digital camers

that also uses an SD card via USB- works perfectly.

Please find below the sort of messages that are appearing in the 'System'

Event Viewer

Loads of these:

Source: DISC

Event ID: 51

An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk1\D during a paging

operation.

followed usually by one of these

Source: FastFAT

Event ID:50

{Delayed Write Failed} Windows was unable to save all the data for the file

.. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your

computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file

elsewhere.

Can anyone help me? I
