Every time I boot my computer up, I get the following message: "One of the

files containing the system's Registry data had to be recovered by use of a

log of alternate copy. The recovery was successful." My computer has been

doing this for a few months--it doesn't seem to be causing any problems

(other than being rather annoying). Is this something that i need to take

care of? and if so, what do I need to do to get rid of it? (I have Windows XP

Media Center Edition Version 2002.)

The problem could be caused by some corrupted files on the hard drive. So try

the following first:

Go to my computer and right click on the hard drive (which is generally c:

unless you have specified otherwise) then click properties, this will bring

up the hard drive properties window. Now click on the tools tab and then

click on Check Now... then you will need to select both the "Automatically

fix file system errors" and the "check for and attempt recovery of bad

sectors" and then click ok it will then prompt you to schedule a scan at

start-up click yes and then manually restart your computer.

When you computer restarts it will scan the hard drive and repair any

errors. This process takes about 1 to 2 hours depending on the size and

condition of your hard drive. Once this is finished your computer will

restart and the problem should be resolved.

If the above didn’t help you may download TuneUp Utilities 2007 and run

TuneUp RegistryDefrag. There are different registry tune ups available from

http://www.download.com.

Also make sure your system has up to date security softeware, (antivirus,

spybot, and so on).

Recurring instances of registry corruption can be caused by defective

RAM. Download one of the following free RAM testing utilities and

run it to test your RAM for possible defects. It is best to run these

tests for an extended period, such as overnight.

Something, possibly over-heated or defective RAM, or improper

shutdowns, is causing registry corruption.
