Hi,

It's clear that SSDP services causes "missing icons" in XP's taskbar

aftere some boot ups. I don't know why but when it's disabled problem

goes away.

But i want to know: I need SSDP service running and as long as it's

running, i experience missing icon problems.

How to solve missing icon problem without disabling SSDP service?

Yes that is true.. and very very frustrating...

I have searched many times and there is no good solution other than

disabling the ssdp

service...

the only other thing you can do, is to enable the welcome screen and when

you boot,

to wait for all the services to start, and the hard disk to stop thrashing

and then to log in...

Im not sure but perhaps turning of UPNP will solve this *unless* sspd is

dependant on UPNP

I've found an easier cure. It worked for me so you could try it:-

Right-click on My Computer

Click on Manage

Expand 'Services & Applications'

Highlight 'Services'

Look through list of services on the right....

Find Universal Plug & Play Device Host

Right-click on it.

Click properties.

Change startup type to 'Disabled'
