jdgregor Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 I recently upgraded my video card from an Elsa Synergy II, 32 MB to a radeon 9250, 128 MB, of undetermined brand. After following all of the installation requirements the card performance on initial computer starts is very poor. The screen transitions almost bleed off the screen and when I scroll through documents there is a very noticeable lag. This problem resolves itself if I turn off all hardware accelaration or do a hot restart of the computer. I am using Win XP pro OS, have a Shuttle AV49PN motherboard with VIA PT800 chipset and have 1 gig of system ram. My bios does not seem to have a setting for the AGP speed but does have a manual select option for AGP comp driving. Does anyone have any idea of the nature of the problem and/or suggestions for a fix? Quote
FPCH Admin AWS Posted January 6, 2007 FPCH Admin Posted January 6, 2007 You need to download and install the drivers for the new card. Quote Off Topic Forum - Unlike the Rest
jdgregor Posted January 14, 2007 Author Posted January 14, 2007 I have downloaded and installed the latest ATI drivers for this card and even re-installed the original drivers. None of these corrected the problem. I updated the VIA chipset drivers as well, and the problem still persisted. I have moved the card to another computer, with a different chipset, and it works like a champ, so I am assuming the problem was in either the bios or chipset. It is still confusing to me why a second start, or re-boot, would correct the problem. I have replaced the ATI card with an NVIDA GeForce card and have eliminated the original graphics problem but am now have the dreaded VIA/Microsoft infinite loop kis of death. Quote
