I have constructed a "Beyond TV system using a Saphire/ATI Radeon 9550 video card. This card has the standard video output plust a DVI video output. "Nominally" all works fine after a boot up and I get video out BOTH video outputs. But if I leave the computer idle for awhile, the video dsiappears from ONE OR THE OTHER displays. Sometimes the display disappears from the TV and sometimes from the computer monitor. To get the display to return to BOTH screens, I must change the display resolution to something else and then put it back. I am running 1280x720 on the Panasonic TV and 1024x728 on the computer display. I have tried making both 1024x728, and both 1280x720 and the problem still occurs. Any suggestions apprecaited!

Hi,

Please select the output device from the display properties -> (Advanced Tab) and try turning off the screensaver options and also turn off the power saving mode from the scr saver tab. Alternatively U could try downloading the latest CATALYST drivers for the video cards, if problem persists. Check out the ATI options in the CATALYST control center. I personally do not use ATI cards, I prefer nVidia, so my knowledge is limited... trying would not hurt....... :D

Thanks for your suggestions.. The latest Catylist drivers/utility have no positive effect. I have found that if I turn the "dual desktop" mode to OFF and go to "CLONE" mode, then everything works when both displays are set to 1280x768. My problem earlier was that my (old) desktop CRT was only good to 1024x768 and I needed to set the two displays to different resolution settings. I changed to a LED panel that CAN operate at 1280x768 and now both ports stay operating when the video cable is disconnected and reconnected (as they should).

It seems that this Saphire 9550 video card does not like to operate when the resolutions of the two ports are set to different values in dual desktop mode.

I agree that the NVida cards are troublefree. But then, this is the first time I have ever tried to operate a video card's DVI output. My ATI cards have been troublefree as well until this one. I think it is going to take a firmware/driver update to fix this problem. :(
