romanvaras Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 Hi everybody, I hope someone can help me. Recently I had a virus/malware/spyware (don't know exctly) infection in my computer. Since then, and after cleaning and running all the anti virus/spyware/malware software available I can't update windows nor run any hotfix without getting a BSOD (blue screen). The error code shown in the screen is not clear, as I doesnt specifically say what type of error it is, just a STOP 0x0000008E. Ive searched online and all the errors Ive found have more information like "DRIVER_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". But I am not gettin any of these messages, just the "Stop 8E". I've even tried running the hotfixes in safe mode but I also got a blue screen. What can be causeing a blue screen in safe mode when trying to update windows ? It doesn't seem to be a driver issue... so ? Ideas ? Thanks a lot. Roman Quote

romanvaras Posted July 16, 2006 Author Posted July 16, 2006 That is error is almost always caused by a driver conflict. Have you installed or uninstalled any drivers for any devices lately? Hi Bob, and thanks for the reply. I dont think so. I can't say for sure when this problem started , but I've only noticed it recently. It may be a virtual driver like Alcolhol's, antivirus, or hide folder's... but I have them installed since long ago but no problems (I did uninstall alcohol). Anyway, I thought it may not be driver related as I have the same crash when I run the downloaded hotfixed in SAFE MODE. Of course there are services and drivers that dtill get loaded in safe mode, but nothing more than the basic stuff, afaik. So, is there any chance, the virus infection has corrupted andy vital file from xp ? Is there a chance to find out what piece of software to blame ? And why the error pops out only when performing an update ? What are the main processes/files affected in an update ? Thnaks Roman Quote
