Posted May 22, 200618 yr I am a hotel cleark at a La Quinta Inn, and our wireless internet sucks. It works for about half the people on the first floor. I have experience with wireless networks over distances of, say, my house, so this is a bit out of my league. I am trying to figure out what kind of hardware I would need to have the whole building wireless. At most I would say it's 600' x 450' give or take. It's three floors high. We are running nothing more than a basic Linksys router off our internet connection. With so many walls, and a large distance I wasn't sure if I needed to go with some sort of commercial router or what. He's a bit of a tight *** so money is also a concern, but I could possibly talk him into splurging. If anyone has put together a network of this approx. size or just plain knows what to do I would appreciate the help.
July 30, 200618 yr Hi Ingoldm, U could try the new SRX - MIMO rtrs from Linksys/Netgear/D-link which extend the coverage area and dead zones if right channels are selected according to u environment. u could also use AP (Access Points) set hard wired into U r basic Linksys w/l router and extend them with ethernet cables (make sure the cable is less than 20-30 mts). Place them strategically on each floor. I ll try and make u wlan network setup diag. if possible by tomorrow and post it on this thread. Gotta go now If u need the model no.s of any products, ask I can suggest. Alex Support Engineer SupportMinds http://www.supportminds.com
