My computer crashed, shortly after i had installed a new USB peg. Ever since then i cannot get into windows - i have tried starting in safe mode, the desk top flashed VERY briefly before crashing. I then triend to restore my registery - which it said it had done but when it rebooted it crashed just before loading again. Please help - how can i solve this? I have a master CD ROM, but it doesn't read this at start up - is there any way i can get into DOS and fix this? Having read through other similar problems, i think that maybe there is something wrong with my RAM drive, if so how can i fix this myself?

Sorry being a bit of a loser i don't know what an OC is.

When tying to start in Safe Mode, a blue sceen appears saying:

'A fatal exception OD has occured at 0147:BC9D. The current application will be terminated'.

When you press Contol, Alt, Del, it restarts and takes you to a start up menu with 7 different options, by choosing Safe Mode again the blue screen with 'fatal exception' appears just as before.

Is the usb device unplugged or is it still plugged in?

Sorry, by OS I mean operating system.

If the device is plugged in try unplugging it and then booting up. If it isn't plgged in try booting with it plugged in.

If neither option works then disable USB support in the bios. Hit the delete key to get into bios during reboot.

I tried putting the usb device back in but no luck.

It's a Windows 98, and when i entered Bios there was no selection for usb support:eek: , this is driving me nuts!!

Windows 98 is very picky when it comes to USB support. If you install the wrong driver, which is what it looks like happened, you'll be in blue screen hell.

The only thing I can think of is to boot to dos prompt and remove the driver.

I tried doing that but there doesn't seem to be an option on the menu?
