mikehende Posted January 13, 2006 Posted January 13, 2006 In the same way that you can hook up a Car engine to a pc and have it tell you exactly what's wrong with the car, is there any such tool/sofftware that can tell you what's wrong with your pc? Eg., let's say you are having trouble with a cd rom, can the tool/software tell you where the trouble is? If so, is it effective? Quote
FPCH Admin AWS Posted January 13, 2006 FPCH Admin Posted January 13, 2006 There are tools like memtest to test memory and some disk utilities to diagnose disk problms, but, there is no one stop tool to check a computer. You think by now someone would have come up with something like thas wouldn't you? Quote Off Topic Forum - Unlike the Rest
SuBX3r0 Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 you can get Ultimate Boot CD or UBCD for short. it has tons of dos based utilities, benchmarks, diagnostics and more that all are burned onto a single cd. i'd recommend getting it for everyone just to have something in case of an emergency. it basically compiles a lot of the best tools out there onto one disk with a simple gui. also you may want to look at UBCD4WIN, it uses Barts PE to create a windows environment you can run from cd. it's a little more user friendly and contains only windows based utilities to diagnose a system. you'll need to copy your XP install cd to your hdd to create the disk and there's quite a few steps so it's not as user friendly to get the disk made, but can come in handy down the road. UBCD is really easy to make, i believe you get an iso and just use your favorite bruning software to burn the image. Yes I would Bob! If you can have a pc system diagnose any problem in an Automobile, I don't see why the pc can't diagnose it's own problem? I guess it's like a Doctor being able to heal other people but can't heal himself or a Mechanic being able to fix other people's cars but can't fix his own  doesn't quite add up. Quote
