I am experiencing a dmboot failure which does not match the circumstances described in the MS article on Event ID: 3, "Failed to start on ..." I am running on Win 2000 Pro.

I have 3 hard disks, C:, D:, and G:, all SCSI.

C: is my system/boot disk and is FAT32, basic.

D: is NTFS, dynamic.

G: is NTFS, basic.

The event log entry says Event ID: 3 dmboot: failed to start volume Volume1 (D: )

Disk manager, however, shows two separate entries for the drive, a normal, healthy entry for Disk 1: dynamic, online, healthy, 16.94 GB, D:; and a 2nd, Missing, dynamic, offline, failed, 16.94 GB, (and no drive letter). Most of my apps are on D: and all seem to work OK.

Because this is not my system or boot drive and because it IS, in fact, dynamic, I'm reluctant to zero the value of the dmboot start entry in the registry as described in the MS article. (The other two registry items mentioned in that article already are zero.) From what I've read elsewhere, dmload, dmio, and dmboot are necessary if any disk on the system is dynamic.

I would greatly appreciate any advice on how to resolve this issue. Thanks.
