I have installed a 2nd hard drrive as the slave on the primary IDE channel and I want to set it up with Windows ME. I have XP on my master drive. My computer has recognised the new hard drive and there seems to be no problems. How do I go about installing this O/S. When I boot from cd rom with the ME disc I am afraid of installing ME on to the master drive. How do I change things to load ME onto the the new slave drive?

When doing a dual boot, you need to install the WIN9X (ME) OS first, then install XP so that XP's bootmanager will take over and give you a multiple choice screen, otherwise, in order for you to do this NOW without all the work, you will need to install a boot management program like partition magic to handle the OS choice menu.

I'll elaborate more if you like maybe later tonight, its been a hectic holiday weekend, so I'm not online much for this week.

It's possible you could *try* installing ME on the new drive, and then attempt a repair install of XP to correct what the ME installer will mess up with NTLDR (the bootloader for the XP install). There's a decent chance something would get messed up along the line, though.

This is not as easy as I believed. The fact is, it can not be done. Although I wanted to use two hard disks the computer still runs it as dual operating systems therefore I would have needed to install ME first and would have lost XP. If anyone disagrees I would be interested in hearing their view.

This is a subject that is best explained from the guys who invented the OS, for someone like me who has done it a zillion times, its pretty easy, I think you need a lesson first before embarking on such a task, so with that I will send you HERE first:
