Posted March 24, 200519 yr Hi! Got a big problem. Cannot start a PC that has been stayed unused about two years. After pushing the power button, there is only a short "ssss", a flick of lights and nothing more. But the last time the computer was used, it was OK. What may have gone wrong meanwhile? March 24, 200519 yr A hissing noise is never good with electronics. This could be a problem in any number of subsystems. The PSU could be having a problem delivering power to spin everything up, the motherboard or the processor could be shot, or, since you mentioned the box has been in storage for a while, something could have gotten inside and be shorting contacts somewhere. I'd recommend taking everything out, cleaning it with canned air, and reassembling.
