Hallo,

I have a little Windows 2008 Server STD Sp1.

I have the first C: partition of 100GB.

50 GB are accupied by C:\Windows\Winsxs.

I know that there are to commands cleaning this folder:

vsp1cln.exe for Windows 2008 SRV with SP1

compcln.exe for Windows 2008 SRV with SP2

I never use these commands?

Are safe commands?

Some problems use it ?

Thank you very much.

From Microsoft's website:

Typically, you should run VSP1CLN.exe if you want to reclaim this disk space after applying SP1 and if you will not need to uninstall SP1.

Regarding COMPCLN.exe, it's not really the same thing as VSP1CLN, COMPCLN clear the specified folder BUT can also remove the compatibility with Windows XP (Program, of course).

Both commands can be ran if you don't need to roll back on a previous SP and if you are almost sure that you don't need backward compatibility with XP. You can delete files manually... or better, copy somewhere and see if you have troubles.

Usually you must pay attention on WORKSTATIONS, not on servers... but anyway, I think it's better a copy instead of nothing to recover from :)

bye
