Posted December 29, 200420 yr HELP! My sister in law (got to love those in laws) was playing on my computer and I have NO CLUE what she did to it.... And she denies everything... All of a sudden when I used my computer my Norton INternet Security won't work. It opens a blank window with Norton INternet Security 2005 at the top and does nothing... I have tried contacting Symantec. They said reinstall Internet Explorer and NIS. Done. Doesn't help! They take FOREVER AND A DAY to get back! Java will not run. Tried reinstalling it.... I am at my wits end before I delete everything on my hard drive and start from scratch! McAfee shows no virus.... AVG shows no virus.... Bullet Proof shows no adware/spyware..... System Registry Mechanic shows no problems in the registry.... Sometimes I can get on the internet some times not.... HELP ANYONE!!!!
December 30, 200420 yr This sounds like a rather nasty problem. You report an intermitent internet connection issue; is this with or without the Norton stuff running? Also, how are you determining that the internet connection is failed? Through IE, or by a ping to a known good server? The java issue is also interesting; what make of Java do you use (MS, Sun, GNU ...)? I've seen all sorts of wierd things happen with MS Java, usually installing Sun Java clears it up. -The Gavster Three students died that year at the academy; one was executed, one was killed in a training accident, and one died of natural causes, for a knife to back will naturally kill anyone. -RA Salvatore Like to IRC? December 30, 200420 yr Author I couldn't connect to anything! Sending a ping to yahoo or using IE. But there were times when my modem was suspended and the IE would work! I have actually just reinstallled XP and everthing is fine. I was using Sun Java... I have seen a few other people complaining of similar issues. I was thinking it was a backdoor virus that hasn't been recognized yet. Thank you for your help!
