Posted December 28, 200420 yr I have a major problem with my Laptop. You see Sony is screwy and when you download drivers from their website it detects to see if you have the correct model. The problem is I dont have the OEM operating system on it and components have been changed inside. So it will not let me install the drivers because it thinks its not a Sony. One thing I found that works though is if I copy c:\windows\drivers and all subdirectories to the secondary partition before I format and then copy them back when I'm done, they all work fine. But my hard drive went out this time so I dont have that option. I was wondering if there is anybody out there that has a Sony Vaio R505DL that could zip up C:\windows\drivers and all subdirectories and email them to me.
December 29, 200420 yr If you know the components that are installed, you may be able to find generic drivers from the manufacturers (Sony just puts other companies' parts together). Of course, for laptop parts a special build of each component is usually made, so sometimes the manufacturer of the component will refer you to the laptop manufacturer. Still worth a try though (might also try other laptop makers that use the same parts). Another option might be to call Sony and tell them that you need drivers. They may be able to give you some tricks to get the web site to talk to you, or mail you a driver disc (depending how still under warranty you are ...) -The Gavster Three students died that year at the academy; one was executed, one was killed in a training accident, and one died of natural causes, for a knife to back will naturally kill anyone. -RA Salvatore Like to IRC?
