goepfert Posted December 17, 2004 Posted December 17, 2004 lsass.exe - Unable to Locate Component Hi, I have a slight problem logging into XP on another computer. I read another users question to the same problem I'm experiencing (posted early 2004) but there did not appear to be a solution. Wondering if someone could help now? On trying to log into XP, the XP initialising load flash screen appears as normal but then a blank screen with err msg "lsass.exe - Unable to Locate Component" "This application has failed to start because LSASRV.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem" When "OK" is clicked just a blank screen with the mouse arrow, XP not loaded. I've tried starting in safe mode and also safe mode command prompt but with same effect. From what I've read so far, could be a sasser virus derivative. I use a firewall, anti-virus, there was no prior warning/indication of problem last logon. I also have SP2 installed. I would appreciate anyones help. Quote
FPCH Admin AWS Posted December 17, 2004 FPCH Admin Posted December 17, 2004 Re: lsass.exe - Unable to Locate Component That file is is hit by a couple virus. You can try booting from the XP CD and go into the recovery console and then use the extract command to place a fresh copy of lsass.exe into c:\windows\system32. This will replace the current file and if it is infected with a virus will fix the problem. If that doesn't work then about the only thing you could do is reformat and fresh install.
